Nikko Smith might have originally been known as Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith's son during the fourth season of American Idol, but he earned his own reputation and nickname as "The Comeback Kid." After originally being eliminated on that season, producers called him and asked him to return to take the place of Mario Vazquez. It was then that Paula dubbed him "The Comeback Kid" for his stellar rendition of "One Hand, One Heart."
In October of that same year, Nikko performed the national anthem prior to Game 4 of the World Series, a game that took place at the home field of the St. Louis Cardinals, for whom his father played 15 seasons.
Since being on "Idol," Nikko has formed his own record label, the N Music Group. He has signed some up and coming rappers to the label, including D-Miles, singer/songwriter Kane, and R & B artist Alanna. He's also working on a debut album of his own, and he's even reportedly reached out to AI alums
Anwar Robinson and
Scott Savol for some collaborations.
Happy Birthday, Nikko!
